What Happen To You?

Dr. Perry and Oprah's audiobook came to my attention when a previous co-worker suggested I listen to it. What caught my attention was how she started: "This audiobook is for anyone with a mother, father, partner, or child who may have experienced trauma." Oprah's childhood story brought back so many memories of my own as a child. It was hard for me to keep listening to it, and at times I would take days to resume the audio or get teary because of the stories shared. This book helped me better understand how past experiences can play out in our current relationships. Dr. Perry explains how the brain works when people are raised in unstable environments and focuses on understanding people and their behaviors when they go through trauma. Being surrounded by dysfunctional families or being neglected in early childhood can cause behavioral problems and health issues. Instead of asking what's wrong with you, we should start asking each other what happened to you.

I recommend this book because all of us have experienced difficulties or trauma, and most people have no idea how it is playing out in their lives, families, and children today and passing it down to future generations. I have faith that this audiobook will serve you as well as it served me.
