Mexico After 26 Years

After my father died in 1998, my mother and grandparents decided to bring us to the United States. Unfortunately, due to some circumstances, we were not able to connect with my father's family.  I was able to make this trip after 26 years of being apart. It helped me heal and reconnect with my roots. I wasn't aware that I have a lot of men in my life to look up to. My uncles and aunts came to visit and did gatherings. One of my uncles saw my daughters riding a horse and said, "La Sangre No Miente," which means blood does not lie. My childhood, if I had stayed in Mexico, would have been around horses and animals. Being a farmer runs in my blood and my children's blood. I am glad they were able to meet my daughters and husband, which to me meant the world. I love how they took me to my father's, grandfather's, and grandmother's graves for closure.  I was also able to see my cousins and their beautiful children. I stayed with my wonderful aunt, whom my father viewed as a mother for being so nurturing. I would keep her up, asking her questions about my childhood and learning more about her and her life. She also took the time and was patient enough to nurture me with memories
. It was a wonderful time that I went. It was also my grandfather's and my eldest birthday, and I was able to celebrate that with them. My daughters can't wait to go back to Tia Socorro's house and ride my uncle's horses. Having my husband there with me and showing his support was special. He was able to converse with my family more about where his parents are from. Making this trip healed my inner child, and I cannot wait to go back and spend time with everyone again.
