Mis Raices - My Roots

Mis raices que me hicieron florecer

My roots made me flourish.

My roots are Mexican, and inside my body runs Mexican blood. I come from two different types of families. On my mother's side of the family, my grandmother's mother passed away when she was just a child. My grandfather's side of the family had a child growing up without a father. They both needed that guidance and that paternal love they weren't able to nourish or even feel as children. My mother grew up with that old mentality. Where the woman had to stay with her husband even if she had to go through hell and back. Maybe they stayed together so their history wouldn't repeat.

On my father's side of the family, well, I really do not know much. I could have learned more, but he was taken away from me when I was 4 years old. The little that I know was that my grandmother had passed away. My grandfather's love of his life had left this world and was never seen with anyone else. Sadly, my grandfather also passed away not so long ago, but I never had the chance or luxury to meet him. Which, until this day, I wonder how much more I have to learn about my father's family.

As broken as my roots are, they made me flourish.
